Ever heard of cycling on water? You read that right. If cycling on land is relatively dull and kayaking sounds fun but tough on your arms, then you might want to give water biking a try. Picture this: Calm waves, no traffic or road imperfections, and the near zero chance of capsizing.
This was exactly what a group of SUSS alumni experiences on a bright sunny morning earlier in May this year with Water Bike SG, the nation’s only water bike operator. The morning started with the run-of-the-mill but necessary safety briefings which included precautions of securing personal belongings, boundary restrictions and assuring the participants on the almost impossible chance of capsizing.
The water bike is quite the creation if I must say. I imagined a bicycle, fixed atop two floats – it is literally a bike designed to run on water. Priding themselves on being a safe, environmentally friendly and inexpensive recreational activity, Water Bike SG rented the bike to an 83-year-old man to enjoy the water sport and illustrate that the activity is indeed for everyone. Plus, water biking is pet-friendly and you can bring your fluffy friends along for the ride too!
So with life jackets on and secured, the SUSS alumni group bravely ventured into the open sea. As cliché as it may sound, it was indeed quite the experience. Being able to straddle the open water, enjoying the healthy dose of Vitamin-Sea and breeze made it super enjoyable, and not to mention, a pretty good cardio exercise too.
After a good 30 minutes, a number of participants came back to shore to take a well-deserved break and enjoy a complimentary drink. It wasn’t long after that everyone got back to water biking while snapping countless selfies and Instagram stories. It was truly a unique experience that ought to be treasured and shared with your friends and family!
