With that, 发啊 (or more commonly recognised as Huat Ah)! Cheers filled the atmosphere at SAFRA @ Carpenter Street on 3 February 2023. Each ‘lohei’ toss was filled with hopes and aspirations for a better year, as life returns to a sense of more normalcy, adding to the festive and feel-good vibe that eradicated the gloomy and dreary downpour outside.
The Lunar New Year gathering was the perfect setting for members of the alumni volunteer community to catch up with one another, take plenty of selfies, and be introduced to Professor Tan Tai Yong, the new President of SUSS. Prof Tan delivered the welcome address, thanking the alumni for their contribution and inviting alumni to continue their lifelong learning and active engagement with the university. Prof Tan also shared the university’s plan to engage partners to provide club facilities for alumni to connect and relax. So look out for further updates on this.
After the lohei, a sumptuous and generous buffet dinner whetted the appetites of our alumni, featuring mouth-watering delectable favourites ranging from curry chicken, abalone and braised ribs to even sushi!
There was so much excitement among alumni who were busy catching up with one another and also the SUSS Deans and staff whom they have not met in person for such a long time due to the pandemic restrictions. Plus, what better way to relax and unwind on a Friday evening after a hearty dinner than a chance to sing your heart out? That was exactly what some alumni members gamely did to showcase their hidden talents and serenaded the crowd with their showmanship and melodious voices. It was such a chill and empowering atmosphere. Several alumni members also got the chance to tour the club’s many facilities too!
Safe to say that our alumni community not only went away from this gathering with full bellies but also many long-lasting memories, which will be a definite highlight to their Lunar New Year Celebrations!
